We have at present no information as to where
Northcote intended to spend the winter. He had mentioned to me Australia and South Africa as possible resting places for himself and his wife. I hope he is content anyway to have a real rest, which he must badly need.
You will be having fine bright weather in Hong Kong, I hope, by the time this reaches you. I expect you met Gimson before you left Ceylon, and we all feel sure that you will find him an admirable lieutenant.
Yours sincerely,
GEI Gent.
